Fertiliser cost per acre: a worked example for a 5-acre lot
Kg tells you how much to buy. This is what that costs, once bag prices enter the picture.
The dosage guides so far get you to a kg or bag figure. Turning that into ringgit needs one more input — the price per bag, which varies by product and by season, so we’ll work through it with a placeholder price you should swap for your own supplier’s current rate.
- Lot size and palm age — sets total kg needed, from the dosage-by-age table.
- Bag price — the F-series products vary in price by formulation; the high-K “Super K” variants typically cost more per bag than the balanced stage.
- Application labour, if you hire it out rather than spreading yourself — a real cost that’s easy to leave out of a fertiliser budget.
A worked 5-acre example
Worked example
5-acre lot, prime mature (8–20 years), 300 palms, placeholder bag price RM 95/50kg.
Yearly total: 300 × 7.5 kg = 2,250 kg = 45 bags/year
Fertiliser cost: 45 × RM 95 = RM 4,275/year = RM 855/acre/year
Per round (three rounds/year): 15 bags × RM 95 = RM 1,425 per round

Budgeting across the year
Because rounds land three or four times a year rather than monthly, fertiliser cost tends to arrive in lumps rather than a steady drip — which is exactly the kind of expense that’s easy to underestimate if it isn’t logged against the month it actually falls in. Recording it against the lot and the round, not just as a lump annual guess, is what makes a real profit-per-acre number possible later.

Does the high-K product really cost more?
Typically yes — the Super K and Xtra K variants carry a higher potassium content and usually a higher price per bag than the balanced-stage product for the same soil type.
Should I include my own labour if I spread it myself?
It’s worth at least noting the time even if you don’t assign it a ringgit value — it’s real cost that a hired-labour comparison would otherwise hide.
How much does bag price actually vary by season?
Fertiliser prices move with global input costs (natural gas for nitrogen, potash markets) and can shift noticeably year to year — always use your current supplier’s quote rather than a fixed assumption.
